Parliament consists of two houses namely the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The UK is a country that is home to one of the world’s largest financial capitals, the world’s richest soccer club-Manchester United, hundreds of musical bands and theatres, the UK offers an incredible array of experiences to live and share.
UK Education and programs are recognized and respected all over the world. It is considered the oldest established educational system & provides a strong foundation for all skills and is by fault, expected to do well and succeed in today’s globalised world economy. Its research and quality driven institutions are unmatched in a variety of subjects including Engineering, Law, Economics and Business. The UK education system encourages its students to use the information they are given to stimulate their original thinking. UK has one of the lowest dropout rates.
Indian students in UK can look forward to and differentiate between different levels in the education system as instructed below –
1. “O” level is equivalent to SSC,
2. “A” levels (2 years) is equivalent to HSC,
3. Bachelors is for 3 years (4 years in Scotland),
4. Sandwich program is for 4 Years,
5. Masters is a 1 year program, and
6. Ph.D is for 3 years.
16 (12+4) years of education is not mandatory to pursue Master’s degree in most subjects by the UK universities.

Students are open to work in various part-time jobs for 20 hours per week while studying degree courses. Similarly, 10 hours per week of part-time jobs are available for students opting for diploma courses. During holidays, the students can also avail a full-time job (40 hours per week).
The part-time option is only available for Students studying in Universities with Tier 4 License.
Scotland has some excellent universities. It has a different education system than the rest of the UK and a 4-year undergraduate degree.
Cost of Living in UK
In the UK most institutions will guarantee accommodation provided you have applied by the deadline date. If you are looking for an alternative, private accommodation available outside the university campus may work out to be much cheaper. Living expenses in London is approx., £9, 180 per annum (minimum). Living expenses in Rest of the UK is approx., £7, 380 per annum (minimum).

There are also some other universities which have intakes in the months of March, April and November.
Students considering the UK are recommended to begin the application procedure 8-12 months prior to the intake. Scholarship deadlines vary amongst institutions. Admission is based on individual institutions’ requirements and is rather easy, since there are no pre-requisite tests (other than for English proficiency). Only IELTS is required.
MBA admission requires work experience of at least 2-3 years at the managerial level, in all decent UK universities.
TOEFL/ PTE/ CAE are no longer acceptable as SELT (Secure English Language Test) due to potential concerns regarding fraud.

Standardized Exams Required
IELTS or International English Language Testing System.
IELTS waiver is available in most of the universities if the student has secured more than 65% – 70% marks in 12th English.
Pre-sessional English Language Program is also available in UK Universities for the students who do not meet the IELTS requirements of the University.

Types of Student Visa
Tier 4 (General) student visa
This is a points-based system. As a Tier 4 (General) student, you must have 40 points to qualify.
Short-term study visas
A student can apply for a short-term study visa for a course or a program which lasts up to 6 months or an English language course which is 11 months long.
